The U.S. government posts a budget deficit of $10 billion in January, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday, as spending outpaces revenue in the month. But even including the January deficit, the government’s red ink continues to contract from the year-ago period. For the first four months of the current fiscal year, the deficit has fallen 37%.
