As Sochi Olympics Enter Final Week, NBC And Viewers Are Waiting For Their Next Sweetheart

Far and away, the most popular Olympic event in the U.S. is women's figure skating. The Olympics is one of the few TV sporting events that attract more female viewers (56% of total audience) than male viewers, and a lot their attention will turn to women's singles figure skating, which begins in a few days. The Olympic event will be, once again, the most popular among American viewers. Even when the U.S. has not fielded a strong Olympic team, viewers have always been able to rely on a competitive women's figure skating squad. There are seven women from the U.S. who have captured gold medals in the event, starting with Tenley Albright in 1956 and Carol Heiss in 1960.
